What POS called Jews termites, exactly? And from what I understand, Lopez organized this rally to create "safe zones" in which antisemities could voice their disgusting bigotry. Do I have that right? The POS Lopez needs to resign immediately. I dare even the biggest liberals on this forum, including the moderator, to make excuses and give the benefit of the doubt to this sorry excuse for a human being.
I was just coming here to post my outrage. I have defended Trayon White from charges of anti-Semitism because I didn't feel that his words or actions met the bar of anti-Semitism, though he did appear to be very insensitive to anti-Semitism. In the case of yesterday's rally, there was unequivocal anti-Semitism. One correction to the post that I am quoting. Lopez didn't organize the rally to create a "safe zone" for anti-Semites. Rather, one speaker at the event expressed a much different message than the others that spoke. All speakers but the Nation of Islam member expressed positive, inclusive messages. One of the early speakers later explained that she and others left the rally when she heard the anti-Semitic remarks. Clearly it would have been better for her to make her opposition known more vocally rather than quietly leaving, but I can understand not wanting to get into a public tussle with the NOI. The Nation of Islam speaker was unequivocally anti-Semitic. Moreover, I have seen the video and Lopez did not flinch at the remarks. He didn't react at all in fact. This is inexcusable. Elisa Silverman is a great Council Member for whom I have tremendous respect. Moreover, she has attempted to steer a middle ground in the controversy surrounding White and has had considerable patience with him. Her message that the District must reevaluate its relationship with the Nation of Islam is correct, as the NOI member made abundantly clear. It is unconscionable that White has remained quiet about this to this point (at least as far as I can tell and I follow him on Twitter). If he can't come to the defense of his colleague and condemn clearly anti-Semitic remarks, he will have crossed a line regarding anti-Semitism in my mind.
White is not the NOI babysitter .
Well maybe he shouldn't be giving taxpayer money to the bigot.
If he did there’s a process to determine that and the appropriate reprimand . Thank you very much
An appropriate reprimand for using taxpayer funds to support one of the country's most virulent anti-Semites would be termination. You're welcome.
Lol ok . I’m sure such rhetoric would help you make some allies in ward 8. Go terminate him if you can you silly goose
