Capital Blue should get all the Coppermine kids it can! Maybe they can convince some Skywalkers and Heroes girls to switch even. If I was a Capital player I would not be missing the Stars or Pride tryouts or you may not be playing club lacrosse anymore.
The parents from BLC were reluctant to commute across the bridge, but you think girls from Baltimore and North would come to Capital? The Maryland lacrosse scene is a lot different from the militant ship that capital runs. Those families wouldn’t be interested in signing the massive parent handbook. If players are leaving copppermine, they will find a team in their own state.
The Cap handbook holds the player accountable for the good of the team. My kid signed it and we support what it stands for. Players are all held to the same standard. She understands she can’t miss practice or tournaments — or she’ll be benched. She also agrees she’ll be her own advocate if she has questions about the team. Exact same standards college coaches demand of their players. Good preparation for what Cap players will encounter at the next level. Puts a wall between parents and coaches and club directors and forces the player to address issues herself (rather than relying on mom or dad). If you think that’s “militant,” you should have a serious / honest convo with your kid about what life is like playing at the college level (and whether she’s ready for it).
I did not make the “militant” comment but Capital does not allow its players to miss practices for prospect days or showcases. I know this has been grumbled about by many current and former parents but I agree that to date Capital has delivered on recruiting. We will see if that trend continues with the ‘28 team and beyond.
