I am the PP who knows the women who were attacked a while ago. The attacker in the Duke case was not a Duke student and was at a great disadvantage at the party with all those drunk guys who were insulting her and her entire race. She had nothing to loose and everything to gain by hurting those guys. I feel badly for her, but she should not have pressed forward on the charges. This woman (as far as we have been informed) is an average undergrad who could get into UVA. It boggles my mind that there are so many people in this forum, for moms and dads in the DC area, who are willing to throw this girl under the bus. She could be your daughter. I have to wonder if a lot of the details are what she "thinks" she remembers, but I don't think that means she was not attacked. Maybe she is not admitting she drank, or used drugs, or made the VERY HUGE MISTAKE of taking a drink given to her at a fraternity. But, it serves as a warning to other women (and men, by the way) that when they report an attack they have to remember every little detail exactly or just not report. She has learned a very hard lesson and has taught it to many others--it is best to stay quiet and let the old boy network rule. It will be interesting when they research and release the Rolling Stone article, as they say they plan to do. So please teach your sons and daughters to: (1) not attend an event at a frat house until after freshman year, if not pledging. That way they can hear on the campus stories and decide for themselves if the frat is ok or has problems. (2) Never take an opened drink or open cup from anyone at a frat house (or at any other party for that matter) (3) Do not leave your cup or turn your back on it. Keep it in your hand. Do this in the bars too. (4) if you believe you might have been raped, go to the ER ASAP. Even if you don't remember. These are the things you can teach your sons and daughters to keep them safe.
I agree with you completely.
