I know.  This reminds me of the rep in Virginia who thought he would own the libs by sponsoring a bill to take down the statue of Harry Byrd, the Dem who resisted school integration.  All the Dems got on board with it.  Now he wants to pull the bill, but the Dems won't let him.  I think they are happy to take a vote on this in August.
