We are trying to cross every t and dot every i before we move to Phase 2. Phase 1 has gone smoothly but it was quite easy to plan and implement. Phase 2 is a bit more complicated. Our baby pool will remain closed. We will provide seating but we will limit numbers and numbered table groupings will be by reservation that correspond to numbered lanes. It’s trickier than Phase 1 though. I think it might be tough to convince people to maintain 10’ distance although they will be closer than 10’ when passing while doing laps. I think it may be tough to keep some from wanting to “play”, but we will try. As volunteers we are doing our best.
I cannot understand how you can stay 10 feet apart and do laps with 3 people per lane. Say I am in lane 4. The lane is 8 feet wide. Going down the lane each time, I pass the other 2 swimmers coming back my lane the other way, 3 to 4 feet from my head. If the other two are slower than me, I catch them up and have to pass them. If the other two are doing 10X100 sets every 2 mins say, and I'm doing continuous swimming, I have to pass them when they are resting at the end, waiting for the 60 second mark on the clock. Then going down the lane, I pass by the three people coming back up lane 3, and coming back I pass by the three people going down lane 5. All of these people come within a few feet of me. Heaven knows, I get my hand hit often enough across the lane rope in normal times, so people in adjacent lanes are pretty close to me. The only way you can circle swim and maintain a distance is for the three people to swim down lane 3 and back lane 4, and never pass each other and never stop at the end of the lane for a rest. Even then, the black lines on the bottom of the pool in lane 3 and lane 4 are still only 8 feet apart. Do the people who wrote these rules ever swim? I am exposed to the breath of 8 other people every two lengths.
