I just want to make sure I have this right. Democrats think Trump or his people called the network and said something like, "Jimmy Kimmel makes jokes about me. Please fire him." And the network execs said okay and canceled his show. Do I have that right?
We all saw the video of the FCC chairman threatening ABC’s broadcast license. Do you not grasp that in the American system of government the various executive agencies and their appointed heads fall under the direct command of the executive? No, of course you do. You’re just playing games rather than acknowledging- as many conservatives have in response to this - that the current occupant of the WH is an existential threat to the most bedrock of our civil rights, the one which enshrines all the rest.
Okay so dems think that Trump called the Chairman of the FCC, who then called the network execs and said, "Jimmy Kimmel makes mean jokes about Trump. Fire him." Is that a correct reading of the Democratic position on Jimmy Kimmels show being canceled?
No, this was all done publicly, out in the open. Why are you commenting when you seem so unfamiliar with what happened?
Because I can't find any public letters from FCC to ABC. It's a sunshine act agency. The news says they threatened regulatory action, so there should be documentation of that. There's very little in the news stories apart from a single salty quote from the FCC Chair.
You think threats can only be made in letters? If you saw the FCC chairs public threat, then you know perfectly well what the issue is.
I'm trying to understand the Democratic position. The network denies that they canceled the show due to pressure from the administration. But people are saying that the FCC chairman, or Trump, or someone, pressured them. It looks like the FCC noted in a podcast that JK spread misinformation about the Charlie Kirk assassination and that the FCC would be looking broadly at misinformation in news programming. The network claims this isnt related to their decision to can him. I'm trying to understand the democrats theory of what exactly happened, I mean specifically. Because there is no agency documentation to back up that there was communication. And to answer your question specifically, I'm not sure I consider the FCC chairman saying he would enforce regulations a "threat." That’s what the FCC is charged with doing. Kimmel is lying about a significant news topic, if he wants to be credible enough to work in a newsy job, maybe he can try not lying.
“ Speaking on Thursday to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said, “I have read someplace that the networks were 97% against me, again, 97% negative, and yet I won and easily, all seven swing states,” referring to his 2024 election win. “They give me only bad publicity, press. I mean, they’re getting a license,” Trump said, according to audio from a press gaggle provided by the White House. “I would think maybe their license should be taken away,” Trump said. The president said that the decision “will be up to Brendan Carr.” https://www.cnbc.com/2025/09/18/trump-jimmy-kimmel-tv-network-licenses.html Your boys are saying the quiet parts out loud again and this is where you start saying that this is a good thing and anyone that says anything negative about magas needs to be shut down because blah blah blah. https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1292995.page
Okay. So Trump not only got Jimmy Kimmel fired for saying mean things about him, he also intends to "shut down" anyone who says any mean thing about "magas". Is that right? What do you make of the fact that JK appeared to violate FCC regs when he spread misinformation about the Kirk assassination. JK claimed the assassin was a Trump voter and said that Trump was covering this up to score political points. Is that just okay? Should we only censor conservatives?
Are you saying the MAGA position is that Kimmel violated FCC regs? I can’t find the FCC vote saying that.
No, I said appeared to. Not that the FCC issued a violation. In fact the lack of FCC action on this would suggest that the democrat belief that FCC action led to his firing is wrong. If they took action, or developed a position, that would be public record. The alternative is that the FCC had nothing to do with this at all. But the democrats need the FCC to be involved in order to further the censorship narrative.
Congratulations, the Democrats will absolutely end up using the FCC in a more aggressive way. Keep giving them justifications to get rid of your propaganda MAGA propaganda outlets and they will use them.
Yes. It’s only a matter of time before a conservative news anchor or late night comedian gets removed. Oh, wait…
