PS: - Get measles encephalitis? Lifelong brain damage. - Measles orchitis (at the testicle)? Lifelong infertility. - Hemophilus influenzae B infection? There is 3-6 percent chance you die. - Neonatal hepatitis B infection? 90% of the time it goes chronic -- 1/4 of those babies die, and 1/4 end up with liver cancer. *Yeah sure, people bleat about "my babies aren't having sex or using IV drugs." But Hep B is 100 TIMES as infectious as HIV. All it takes is a nosebleed in the asymptomatic person holding your baby, or at a car accident, or wherever. Would you be okay with someone with active HIV holding your baby? Hep B is 100 TIMES as contagious.
Measles can also cause deafness, which considering the incoming administration want to greatly reduce or completely eliminate funding for children with diabilites it might be something to consider when you decide your kid shouldn't be vaccinated against measles.
You cannot protect your child with a measles vaccine until they are 12 months old. Right now, the young infants are protected by some immunity from mom and then herd immunity until 12 months. You will need to try to get your infant to a place with herd immunity until they reach 12 months.
If people estop vaccinating en masse there will be no safe place with herd immunity. ANd infants under 12 months will get measles from the unvaccinated older siblings. Measles can be deadly in that age group so many of them will likely die. For those who do not die, they will likely suffer from hearing loss, and potentially other damage to brain and heart and that's just measles. Lets add in polia and pertussis to the discussion.
