Looks like TJ really might be on the chopping block soon "• 2.2.13 Thomas Jefferson Science & Technology – The budget includes a transfer of $2.5M to Fairfax to cover the cost of Arlington students enrolled at TJ. BAC Recommendations: - APS should consider eliminating this option pending a more detailed cost evaluation. While the calculated cost per student of this program is less than the avg Arlington Cost-per-pupil, shifting the students back into schools would not result in additional cost given they would be spread across the country and absorbed into current cohorts. (Note: This would need to change over time since we would likely want to grandfather APS students already attending "
Anyone else remember the poster(s) from a month or two ago who were so very sure this could never be cut? Wonder what their thoughts are now.
Just cause the citizen Budget AdvisorynCommittee made a recommendation doesn’t mean anything. APS has proposed cutting TJ before in their budget, but it has never made the SB final. Maybe it will eventually. Short sighted but whatever. Part of APS’s overall tumble towards mediocrity. So long as they grandfather the kids already at TJ who gave up other APS options (HB, IB).
I'm not saying it's going to go through, just that it's a possibility. Someone maybe you insisted before this could never happen. Maybe you should rethink that.
