I think Zoe could still come back. She didn't want kids; Kevin has them now and Madison will do much of the heavy lifting. It's also a fairly amicable situation, especially as Madison did the dumping. (So Zoe wouldn't be dealing with an angry ex-wife as mother of Kevin's kids.) As for the music teacher....What did Kate and Toby ever have in common other than being overweight? Toby was able to overcome that; Kate wasn't. So, now, the differing ways they look at the weight issue in their son is driving them apart. Other than kids, this couple has NOTHING in common. Toby, unlike Beth, also doesn't seem to have to come to terms with the Pearsons' family dynamic. At least with the music teacher, they both have a love of music and, to some extent, a loving of teaching children, in common. As someone who is a music teacher at a school for the blind, he is probably going to do a better job dealing with Jack's blindess than Toby is. And since we know that music ends up being Jack's "thing," it's also obvious that all 3 of them will share the love of music and he will probably be a better mentor in that regard than Toby--just because Toby has no other experience dealing with the blind. I wouldn't be surprised if the story line is that the teacher recognizes how truly gifted at music Jack is and helps him a lot. Kate may see that with the kids the teacher is not the rude acerbic person he is with adults. He will see what a great mom Kate is--he's probably dealt with a lot of parents of blind children who do a worse job. So, it may be that it is Jack who brings them together.
This seems plausible.
