The Washpost article says: Just 25 percent of D.C. children between the ages of 5-11 are fully vaccinated, according to city data. There are wide disparities in vaccination rates between wards, so in many schools the youth vaccination rate is likely far lower than that. Why does this even matter in light of the Pfizer news today that the vaccine is basically ineffective in kids?? It's a big blow, I get it, but seems that this shouldn't even be a factor now.
Well … 12% affective?!? Not wonder why not even half of kids are not vaccinated. Including mine two.
The vaccination rate of children is irrelevant. Omicron blew threw the transmission benefits for kids and adults, and kids in this age group are naturally protected from serious outcomes to such an extent that the vaccine studies basically couldn’t measure a benefit. That said, I vaccinated my kid because I assume he is going to catch it and I’d rather he have an immunological jump start when that happens. But it is perfectly scientifically defensible to refuse the vaccine in this age group.
