I'm not much of a religious person , but I do remember In catholic school being told that generosity should be pure , unconditional and uninterested . We were explicitly told that helping someone shouldn't come with the expectation of a thank you or some kind of payback in the future . I'm not sure what Judaism says about generosity , but it appears that in your case you're not the magnanimous, benevolent , do-gooder that you've convinced yourself to be . Unlike you , i would never remind anyone or any entity with whom I have a disagreement with about my charitable giving Did it ever occur to you that your ability to make those donations is due in part to you benefiting from the white supremacy and its attendant structural racism due to your lack of pigmentation? Sort of proves the whole point that your life in America hasn't been anywhere near as harsh , tragic and violent (continuously ) as that of AAs doesn't it? Does it ever occur to you that if America had lived up to what it says it is as country then the donations of individuals like you and your thinly veiled superiority complex wouldn't have been needed ?
I think the point is, it is disheartening to be a part of a community and in the spirit of giving, discover that not only are you not appreciated (which is fine) but engender open hostility. No one is looking for accolades in their donation of time and/or money. But the anger directed to people who are trying to help is sad.
Thank you. I'm the PP who specifically said I wasn't expecting accolades for my contributions but that I didn't expect to be attacked by the very people I am donating money to in an effort to be of help. And what happens? I get attacked! I have to actively work to remind myself that the PP who is accusing me of a superiority complex is just one hateful individual and not to let it impact my decisions regarding donations.
If you weren't expecting accolades you should've never talked about it . Talking about your charitable work is gauche as hell
That was because some angry black man - or at least he SAID he was a black man - dumped on Jews and accused them of not caring about black people's struggles (on a thread that was originally about antisemitism) and I made the mistake of trying to show that it wasn't true - and that Jews are in fact quite generous. But with some people, it's damned if you do and damned if you don't. And you're really disturbed. Your response to someone who is voluntarily donating money is to dump on her about about white privilege shit and how if it had a good country, blacks wouldn't need help? WTH is wrong with you? Poor black communities - particularly the children, which is where my heart lies - definitely need help, and yet you are resentful to the very people who voluntarily provide it?
