My wife is obsessed with our 10-y.o. daughter's swim "career". It's honestly taken over her/our lives. It drives me insane. I'd rather have a debate or theater "nerd" than a kid obsessed with sports. Just my opinion.
+1000
The saddest part about parents obsessed with their kid's athletic career is that the kids are often mediocre at best - and 100% unappreciative of the time and money it all costs. And even if they're great there's only a 10% chance they'll play in college. I'm all for being active but this 365 day a year season crap is absurd. I don't bother w facebook anymore because it's just a constant deluge of parents bragging about the latest swim soccer lax etc. etc. tournament EVERY SINGLE WEEKEND. I think it's all a big scam that sucks parents in. That or parents are just so bored it gives them something to waste their weekends on.
