JonBenet was Patsy's living doll, an extension of herself - her beautiful, healthy self.  JonBenet started to develop a mind of her own, not always listening to Patsy and that made Patsy look and feel bad, out of control.

Patsy was also overtired herself with a trip to prepare for and she probably asked her daughter to do something (maybe don't take your brother's pineapple or go downstairs and get your suitcase) and JonBenet was not cooperating, whatever, and Patsy lost her cool and either struck or shoved JonBenet injuring her head.

She then picked JonBenet up carried her to her bed, laid her down and told John and Burke that she fell asleep.  She later checked on JonBenet and realized how badly injured she really was and that was when the strangulation and cover up started.

I am not familiar with the minute details of this case, so this may or may not be a plausible theory.  Just figured I'd toss another theory onto the pile.  I doubt that we'll ever know what happened.[/quote]

I'd buy this theory. I can see a mom losing it and wanting to smack their kid. (I'm a mom and have wanted to smack my kid from time to time on really trying days.) However, this is what I don't get.... if Patsy smacked her and realized it was more serious than she intended, WHY THE HELL NOT GO TO THE HOSPITAL? After the initial contact, reality should have clicked back in Patsy's head.  Not strangle, write a 2-page ransom note, and fake vaginal injury.

I don't know the answer to that.  Maybe it was obviously a very bad wound (child had an indentation in her skull), maybe Patsy thought that she was already dead and there was no point in calling 911.  Then it just became a matter of trying to figure out how to cover up what happened.  Maybe carry a "sleeping" JonBenet out to the car and have her disappear at a rest stop on the way?  At some point she checked on her daughter and realized that JonBenet was still breathing, maybe she was foaming at the mouth or making noises of some kind which freaked Patsy out and Patsy simply decided to put JonBenet out of her suffering like one might do for a badly wounded animal.  And from there it became a matter of staging...maybe she even decided that framing John was better than being labeled a murderer herself.
