NP here. My goodness, the DCUM mean-girl harpies are out in full force. If the colleagues made fun of OP's appearance at work in front of her, they are unprofessional and assholes. Any PP who has defended this behavior as okay needs training in social skills and professionalism. That said, it is weird to me, OP, that they sobbed when you confronted them. And for you to want to switch cubicles over this is an over-reaction. Just learn and move on. If this story is real, your best bet is just to keep everything on the professional level from here on out.
OP here, thank-you for your reasonable and nonjudgmental response. Frankly I was surprised that this cattiness is considered normal workplace behavior by so many on DCUM. I've worked in the same office 10 years and never encountered it before, so maybe I've been overly sheltered. I agree with your wisdom to learn from this and move on. Thank-you again, and to the others who gave helpful advice.
OP what PPs are saying this is normal? Its not normal, they were acting like catty b's. But you have been a woman your entire life and, I assume, navigated female friendships during that time. Occasionally women are catty b's. You expressed (I assume super super harshly due to their reaction) that you were unhappy and they seem to have been falling over themselves to apologize. Thinking that people who are falling over themselves to apologize deserve forgiveness =/= thinking that their initial behavior was acceptable. Without any context about what they said I don't understand why you think its so unreasonable that DCUM apparently thinks that someone who made a mistake and is besides themselves trying to make amends might deserve a second chance. You haven't said this is habitual, just a one time thing. Honestly I'm kind of wondering if you have an accurate read on how they were acting/how you were acting because you don't seem to think its weird that you reduced two grown women to hysterics and seem to have no idea what could have caused that. They are either cartoonishly dramatic woman like cinderella's stepsisters at this point or there is a missing part of this story. I am a fairly emotional woman and the ONLY time I have burst into tears in my office is when my dog died. This just seems like a very weird story, and weirder still that you don't seem to see/acknowledge the weirdness!
edited as i missed a couple key words!
