Although DC is so subpar compared to NY and San Fran, I will still vote for it. Just on a level of sheer obliviousness and out of whack sense of self. It's such an uninventive, regressive city, in terms of creative culture. And yet it still fancies itself to be world class. It makes an for an interesting mix of entitlement without actually contributing anything.
Nailed it. For better or worse, people in SF and NY are on the cutting edge of change. People in DC are just obnoxious rent-seekers.
+1. I can tolerate the self absorption of say, Los Angeles, because it truly is a creative capital that, for every entitled Beverly Hills real estate broker, has struggling artists and people that truly do move the world forward. But DC is just... a bunch of middling wonks making slightly above average off the teat of the government, who still insist on shopping at whole foods and getting the granite they want. It's really the worst.
I'll never understand this weird dc hate, you all must never really explore the city. It sucks that we're the trash can for the country's politicians but that's the people you send us and their entourage. What's wrong with picking out granite??? That's not even that luxuriant lol
Are you the same person who has been camping out on this thread and arguing with literally everyone? Dude, get a life.
You think there's only one poster here with a different point of view? Why do you call that "arguing"? I don't get the DC hate either. Yes, Congress people are a bunch of douchebags, but that's b/c all the people who live in the 50 states send them here. If you actually LIVE in DC, you realized it's SO MUCH MORE than just Congress and the Hill. And Washingtonians hate Congress even more than other Americans.
There is one poster who has a very "distinctive posting style" and just likes to camp out here and go back and forth. No matter how many disagree with them. It's obnoxious as hell. But yeah, everyone knows that. The sad fact is, it doesnt have much more than Congress and the Hill. That's why DC is only known on a national level for government. Sad but true.
What a facile response. You're an ignorant nut job.
LMAO. And your response was really well reasoned and persuasive. Thanks
I'm the np you accused of trolling (who has not posted since). There is a local artist culture if you take the initiative to go find it. Check out Columbia heights and h st. Just cause you're not part of it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Did you ever go to artomatic? How about capitol steps? How about the national gallery of art? The spirit of dc isn't known to the rest of the county but that doesn't mean there is no spirit. I don't know much about Jacksonville or Anne arbor or Lincoln bit that doesn't mean those cities have no personality. Dc isn't that much different then the rest of America in that it's mostly filed with normal people working their best to have good lives (and if quinoa makes them happy why do you care that they shop at whole foods?). I'll never understand some posters on this site insisting that their lives of trying their best and doing their thing are lesser. Every day I get to drive down the Parkway and look at our river and our monuments and I remind myself how beautiful it really is and how lucky I am to have what I have. But I guess I'm just some stupid vapid dc resident.
