The W reference is a commonly understood shorthand to describe a set of 4 schools. It is not a formal designation. Think of it like the Big Ten, which has 14 schools in it, or the ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference) which now includes Notre Dame despite the fact that Indiana is nowhere near the Atlantic Coast. Listen I'm not the person you're arguing with, but the Big Ten and the ACC actually exist. This "W" shit is completely made up. When I hear it in conversation I know I'm talking to someone who spends too much time on DCUM.
