PK3 In at Appletree SW. #87 at Hyde (no preference).
Yikes, those are far apart. Do you live in Georgetown and work in L'Enfant?
Live in NW, work near the Mall. AT is actually easier (closer to my regular commute route) than Hyde. The trailers don't have a lot of curb appeal, though. We're in a daycare now that has served us well -- swim lessons in the summertime, long hours and flexibility on dropoff and pickup, etc., and those features will be hard to part with. Although it would be a breathtaking relief to have all that tuition back in the bank.
You will have to cover summer camp, aftercare, professional development days, conference days, Spring Break etc. Moving from private daycare to DCPS reduced my childcare bill by about 55%. I could have brought that down somewhat more with a cheaper summer camp.
Yup, we had the same experience with our older child, whom we moved out of the daycare into our IB PK4 this past year. The truly ridiculous price tag we'll be paying this summer for camp for our 5yo is one of the big incentives to keep our younger child in daycare, which has a terrific summer program (swimming 3x/wk! for the 3yo's!) for a little more than 50% the cost of the camps near our home (which only offer water play to the youngest campers). Unfortunately for us, as soon as we leave the daycare, our child's seat goes to a waitlist family, so we don't have the option to leave for the school year and return for the summer.
