Glad he is feeling better. I don't understand either but that was what they did w/ my husband as well. (Except I think the follow up was a week, not 2.) Something about needing the infection to be under control. He did end having to have it pulled, though. [/quote]

Dentist here. Yes, you are correct. With acute infection, we place antibacterial medication inside the canal to get the infection under control. The last thing you want is to leave any bacteria behind which would cause re-infection of the tooth. Your husband should feel better soon and should not need any meds much longer. Give it a day for the swelling/pressure to go down. If he still has pain a couple of days from now, go back to the dentist. Sometimes, rarely tho, puss will build back up inside the canal, causing pain, and would have to be drained again. GL.[/quote]
