There's no reason to use the search feature. That history, from half a decade ago, is entirely irrelevant. The prior poster clearly has an axe to grind. Perhaps they have a vested interest in seeing this issue be brought up in each and every Hardy thread. Curious, don't you think?
I don't have an axe to grind. I'd like to know what happened and if it affects the school today. Maybe it comes up in Hardy threads because, like me, there are people who haven't heard about it. New families move to DC all the time.
Hmm Np here who is an interested observer. My kid is 7 years away from (hopefully!) attending Hardy and I really want to see the school succeed, for selfish and community reasons. I'm curious about the past because as we all know, history has a way of repeating itself! No axes to grind, just a desire to educate myself.
so educate yourself by using the search engine, not by resurrecting the ghost of Michelle Rhee on every Hardy thread Rhee and her broom that took her long enough to destroy DCPS by making OOB feeder rights vested in 2009 (which inevitably led to the overcrowding at some of the Ward 3 ES's and Deal and Wilson (prior to that OOB kids had to lottery in to ES, MS, and HS, and could only do so if there was space) and then flew off to the private sector to make money after firing a bunch of good and bad principals, creating IMPACT which led to cheating scandals that were never fully investigated, (it is not fair to measure a teacher by the performance of a group of kids in crisis vs how much a teacher can do in a Ward 3 school) and generally creating chaos. But most importantly, permanently overcrowding Ward 3 schools with OOB kids whose "rights" she "vested" in 2009, which the boundary review process did not have the guts to address, so instead they cut whole additional parts of the city off from Wilson, and cut its budget, gave it a crappy principal, and it will still be overcrowded by the time any Mann 4th graders get there, which is why they may not. And for those who are not planning to go to Wilson, there is little point in going to Hardy. But if you want to save money, BASIS (#2 top scorer on the DC CAS last year it was offered, #3 first year they opened) and Washington Latin (#3 behind BASIS the final year and before that #2 after the almighty Deal) are both good options for another 3 years of good education no tuition. Only problem is if you choose Latin your kid will be behind in math, but then it is impossible to get into anyway I completely agree that the consensus at Hardy is that Rhee and her craziness is ancient history, and that it is great that not all the extremely competent but very vocal supporters of Pope were fired as well because the one in question seems to be doing her job while constantly being maligned on this board. - NOT a Hardy Parent
