OP, there is a cafeteria at my children's school, so they would just eat the school lunch that day. I would not bring in a library book, homework assignment, or backpack. But lunch? I'd bring that the first time they forgot if there was no backup. I forget things all the time and have a car to turn myself around to retrieve it. My kid would be out of that preschool so fast they wouldn't know what was happening. Even if it didn't happen to her.

Who said they'd have to go hungry? I assume the kid has friends they can borrow some lunch from or money from if they don't have an account at the school that has money in it.  It's a good lesson in problem solving for someone old enough to learn it and not be damaged because mom didn't bring their lunch which they left behind.[/quote]
