Seriously, what was the DEAL with the square dancing? How did it gain such a foothold in PE? I admit that the "real" square dancers I've seen are moving pretty fast, and I can see how it would be good exercise for them, but in my memory, we were moving at a walking pace in my elementary school version. My kids have never done square dancing, and made me LOL from their looks of horror when DH and I told them we had to do it.
I LOVED square dancing! It's fun, you get to move and it allows kids who otherwise wouldn't ever learn anything about dance to try it out. Square dancing, along with the Virginia Reel, should be part of every elementary school curriculum.
