I can't help but laugh when I hear Shake It Off on the radio and there's that part about "this...sick...BEAT" which is followed by what is possibly the least sick beat in the history of mankind.
Hahahaha
This made me laugh so hard! I spend zero time thinking about her, but I feel like she went through some annoying spell back when she was dating a Kennedy -- didn't she impulsively plunk down a huge wad of cash on a big mansion basically adjacent to the Kennedy's compound and crash a Kennedy wedding (that she had been asked not to attend so as not to draw attention away from the event)? And I don't know what she is "shaking off" -- she's tall, thin, beautiful, rich and privileged beyond imagination. As for her love life, she's made a lot of bad choices -- you don't get to date man whores like John Mayer and Jake Gyllenhaal and then cry when it doesn't work out.
But she is gangly and awkward compared to performers like Katy Perry or (ha ha) Beyonce. And she was picked on for being artsy when she was in school. I get it. I get what she was saying. And I appreciate her willingness to make fun of herself. And when you are an artist, actually, yeah, you DO get to write sad songs about your breakups, even if you made bad decisions (or you were just too young or naive to know better). I just googled it and reportedly John Mayer wrote "Paper Doll" about Swift. And there are rumors that Mayer and Katy Perry are writing, together, a revenge song about Swift. All those life experiences are cannon fodder to an artist, and that's as it should be. Maybe comments like yours are just the inevitable build-up-then-tear-down part of the pop star machine that has previously helped bring down Brittney, XTina, Miley, et al. Still, you say you don't know what she has to "shake off" but haven't you answered your own questio? Every female star really needs to be armed to shake off the bored criticism of Internet strangers like you who feel free to critique their body, upbringing, boyfriends, and every other choice they have made even though you spend "zero time [ha ha ha]] thinking about her." If this is how we're socialized to critique one another, we ALL need to be able to shake that shit off.
