We're an AA family and live in McLean. It's not terribly diverse in terms of AAs, but there are a lot of international folks, Asians, some LGBT (at least in our neighborhood). Schools are fantastic (FFX Co has some of the best in the country), and the commute to Bethesda is pretty easy. Not walkable though, which I don't like. The budget may not fit unless you're willing to look at townhouses?
We're a mixed race family and highly considering McLean. How have the neighbors treated you? While our family may be different as an interracial family, we're looking to find an area that will treat us as if we belong. Have you felt welcomed and, more importantly, have your children been able to keep and make friends? TIA
Hi- Interracial family here. Kids have no problem. We have no problems. We're in Langley Oaks. Can't say it's terribly diverse on our street, but everyone is super friendly. There is also another interracial couple somewhere in the neighborhood (I've seen them walking a dog), but they're significantly older so I don't really know them. McLean is full of Arabs, Persians, Koreans, Indians and other assorted non-white looking people, so they're really not too concerned with your kids not being white. At least that's our experience. Or I should say the kids' experience.
