And apples contain arsenic. The luncheon meat is FINE. It's not like your kid is eating a pound of it at a sitting.
Apples contain organic arsenic, which is harmless. Do you think it is FINE to feed your 13mo chinese food with MSG? Boars Head is one of the healthier luncheon meats, but it is not "healthy" especially for a 13mo.
Yes, I think it is fine to feed my 13 mo old Chinese food with MSG once in a while--but Chinese restaurants we've been to claim no MSG. But, I also am a parent who thinks it's fine for my kid to have juice at parties and Doritos at the Super Bowl party and ice cream daily during the summer. I don't disallow a food if my children show interest in it, but will moderate its consumption. I've also never been on a diet, completely eliminated a particular category of food, or been remotely overweight. We cook at home most nights, eat a lot of fruit and veggies, and enjoy cuisines from all cultures. FWIW, my father is French and my mother is Korean, so I grew up with a very different understanding of food than most mothers I meet here. There are a lot of DCUM mothers out there who are too controlling about food to the point of creating unnecessary stress over what should be a pleasurable part of life and, ultimately, making eating a fraught moral exercise for their children. I would not be surprised to learn that many of these mothers struggled with eating disorders and dieting at some point, or will have children who will have those struggles.
