i have a kid at BCC and I am really shocked at the amount of drug use and the availability of drugs and alcohol for many kids. I have another kid in the DCC and there are drugs there, too, but it's much easier for kids to separate themselves from that scene. At BCC, it's everywhere.
BINGO! More pressure at Wootton/Churchill/Whitman/BCC/WJ to do the scripts, smoke the grass, drive drunk and have sex with every classmate because EVERYONE there is doing it. I am constantly amazed at the lack of individuality at the "W" schools. These kids are super competitive with each other but will also do EXACTLY what their friends are doing because they are scared to be rejected. I work at one and I see it everyday.
I think people are impressed by the high test scores, the "nice/neat" looking kids, and general lack of disruptive behavior in class that you see in the lower performing schools. But you look under the rug, and it's pretty ugly. And, parents really don't see what's under the rug, only what they can see on the surface. Only the "workers" see what's under the rug.
