OP, I am so sorry they are releasing her - that is how pathetic our privatized health care system is right now particularly for mental health needs. You need to FIGHT for inpatient - she tried to kill herself - trying to harm yourself or others is still the act needed. When my sib tried the same thing your wife did, he was in patient for 2 weeks at least following the attempt.
She has those bastards convinced it was an accident and not a suicide attempt. How fucking stupid can they be?!
ER nurse here. Some can be pretty fucking stupid unfortunately. Also Lazy idiots because they don't want to deal with the issues of involuntary commitment. She should have been held for at least another 2 days (depending on your state laws). I'm going to be unpopular with this advice but I'm going to say it anyways. Get a record of her past attempts so you have them. Then drive your son somewhere where he can stay overnight. Then take your wife to another hospital (better if you can research ahead of time if they have a good psych unit. Then take her there and say she's been threatening suicide all night. Say she tried it last night. Your wife needs to be committed. It is not yours and especially not your child's responsibility to monitor her.
