OP here.  My MIL is american, and she is the same way!  So old fashioned, my way or the highway, mostly from bitterness.

Now we know what NOT to be.  I commend you on your being secure with yourself enough to open your mind to another; and not be challenged by someone who is not cookie cutter of you.
