Somewhat gruesome question... how much decomposition would have occurred in 5 weeks? Can perpetrator DNA still be identified on a body/clothing exposed to the elements, for more than a month?
I am not in this field, but I would think so, depending upon how much DNA was there to begin with. Forensics teams can do wonders with clothing and bodies that have been around for years. I recently saw a Dateline or 48 hours in which DNA was found on a quilt from a murder many years ago that had been exposed to elements for a while after the murder. It really depends upon the amount and type of DNA, I would think.
