Politically and economically disenfranchised young people are VERY vulnerable to being drawn into extremist groups, or sometimes, as in Sandy Hook, acting out on their own. Take a look at the kind of people who join white supremacist groups, or Incels, and other fringe types here in the U.S. The all have some kind of political or social rhetoric, just like the Islamic extremists, but it really comes down to economics and disenfranchisement.
