The lower grades and upper grades are almost like different schools. The little kids program is certified and does a decent job but the older the kids get, the less they learn. The classroom acoustics are subpar for Montessori, meaning they're really noisy. Most high SES/white families give up between 2nd and 5th grades. Logan kids sometimes enroll at Watkins and Maury barely able to read in second grade. Buyer beware after early childhood.
Dubious. Every kid in my DC's CHML class was reading stage onejk books before or shortly after the start of PK4.
I don't know about reading skills but as an observer, the difference between PS and the older grades is pretty apparent in the terms of chaos. There have been other threads about this but lord of the flies comes to mind.
The school is not a tight, disciplined organization with quiet classrooms and hallways... I can't imagine a Montessori school could be that way. They take the "child directed education" to heart. However, I never saw anything close to "Lord of the Flies" in five years there...it's more like a hippie commune than anything else.
Then you never sat and watched a recess for 15 minutes. Child directed is not always beneficial to every kid on the playground. Also, what happened to the MS Component? Is there a 6th grade this year?
