If you like your spouse, have a good sex life etc., and still want to cheat, it could be that you are missing the euphoria of a crush and so you want to cheat. When you are younger, you have a fantasy of what romance, love and sex will be like. Then as you mature, you move away from the fantasy and base a relationship on more real things. The desire to cheat comes from trying to recapture the feeling of giddiness when you were an adolescent and had your first crush. It (desire to cheat) is a moment of weakness but if you can stop thinking and rational thoughts - it is the most euphoric feeling.
This is spot on. I have never cheated yet but is seriously considering it with another MM who has been giving me flirting/bodhisattva language hints. I haven't made up my mind to do it or not, but that infatuation is really captivating, like I was back to the teenage years. I haven't felt that strong attraction and tension from dating since I was 24 or 5. With my Dh, while we have a loving relationship, we never had that passion - we used to have pretty good sex but even from the beginning he never passionately kissed me. Now with a young child, we have even less passion, and even the ok sex was almost no longer existent. So if I decide to cheat, it would be because I want passion and sex from the other person, but not actual love and relationship. And I guess also because we have a young child together so I'd never want my child to live without one of the parents, so divorce is not an option for me, at least not until we hate each other to the point that we can no longer stand looking at each other's face for another day.
