I'm a Bailey's parent and I'm sick of every idea being shot down. It's easy for everyone to sit around and bash the vertical school, and rehash past plans and propose new ones, but this is the first idea that seems to have real traction. If this idea gets killed, how long will it take for another idea to come along that Penny Gross won't derail. Sorry, our kids have been neglected and packed in like sardines long enough. The vertical school feels like a bird in the hand, I'll take it.
Ditto! I don't know why everyone is so upset about retrofitting an office building. That kind of space is designed to be reconfigured. They ought to be able to do it relatively smoothly. I've seen some of the concept drawings and it looks promising. I just hope FCPS lives up to some of the "pie in the sky" statements they've made and doesn't cheap-out on this. As for it being vertical, so what? The kids have to walk to get around the building no matter what. What's the big deal if they have to climb a few stairs? And I've been at Bailey's during a fire drill. It was calm, orderly and quiet. It amazed me how quickly and efficiently 1,300 kids evacuated that building. I imagine they'd be able to do the same in a vertical setting. What amazes me about the Sleepy Hollow Manor/Buffalo Hill contingent is that they're more upset about an elementary school than they were a few years ago when someone was talking about putting a strip club where the old Bennigan's was on Wilson Blvd.
