Ugh! This area is so annoying. We eat all types of foods. DCs like blueberries, carrots, and red peppers. They also like cupcakes, ice cream, and cheetos. Some days we have grilled chicken, rice, and salad, some days we have pepperoni pizza. I can't wait to see these kids who've never been exposed to junk food at college. My parents and my generation grew up on hotdogs, twinkies, and Hi-C. We NEVER ate vegetables in my house when I was a kid. My parents and I are in great health. My grandmother just passed at 94 years old. Food is not medicine. It is food.
"Food is not medicine. It is food". This theory is scary. What we put into our bodies DOES matter and the reason why so many americans are on various medicines is bc of their diet and the damage it is/has caused on the body.
She's not saying it doesn't matter (note that her own family eats "all types of food" even though her family of origin ate heavily processed stuff day in and day out); she's saying it's not the only factor. I am big on fruits and veggies and animal products from pastured rather than factory-farmed animals, but I find talk of "eating clean" and "cleansing fasts" deeply effed up. Food is not poison; you don't have to cleanse yourself of it. Food keeps you from being dead. Some makes you feel better while it does that, but food is fuel, not virtue or sinfulness. Oh, and I buy my kids two or three Lunchables a year. I have no idea why they would want to eat them, but they don't understand my love for spinach or bourbon, either.
