The recent Asian immigrants have it somewhat different than my ancestors had. 100's ago, when there was an era of jewsih immigration from central europe to the US, we came with no safety net (also). We came to a country that we could not communicate with, and much of the population hated us. The big difference was we had limited services to help us assimilate. There was no ESOL. And discrimination was legal. There were quotas keeping the number of jewish kids down in some colleges. But, at the public magnet schools (e.g., Bronx HS), me dominated. The work ethic continues today. You know what? most of the jewish kids I know are in AAP. TJ is not as big of a deal for us, because we know our high schools are good. What is similar is that my people worked hard and studied. Not so much prepping for tests, but learning. They because Doctors, Lawyers, scientists, leaders in the entertainment field, leaders in business. Not because of entitlement, but because of hard work. The same thing is true from the wave of Asian immigrants. They are smart and hard working. And they are becoming the Doctors, Lawyers,
Do you realize that your ancestors were let in to the US on. Preferential basis? Asians could not come in - it did not matter whether they were persecuted or not. Asians not allowed. The vast majority of the population ( including the new immigrants from Europe) was in favor of this immigration policy. Yes the immigrants worked hard - and the Jewish folks especially so and it is clear from their success. But stop complaining - adjust to the new reality. You would rather sharpen your knives going up against the Asians in the US rather than losing in the global marketplace to Asians from Asia. You have to up your game rather than crib about entitlements of perceived unfair play.
