I'm a PP who suggested that I'd support a French immersion school. Will talk to a friend of mine who is a charter school (DC) founder. I'm afraid I would not have a lot of time for it (full time job and a 1 and 3 year old) but I am interested and have some connections to the french speaking/culture organizations in DC. Something interesting to think about. Hereafter known as HV.
Funny I am in the same boat as you with not enough time. I actually started reaching out to people and after everyone assured me it would suck up all of my time I put it on the back burner. All of us interested parents really need a way to link together... and not anonymously!
Ok, so how many of us are talking about this? I'm the one who proposed French Green Biosciences and has the friend who started charters in California. Who else is here? Later today I'll set up a DCUM email, you guys want to do the same so we can get in touch offline?
As a Francophile with limited Spanish, I would be very interested in that as well, although my daughter is now nearly three. I assume it's too late for us?
I'm one of the ones who started this conversation, my daughter is already 4 so it's definitely too late for her, but this isn't just about our own kids. This is about anyone interested in discussing getting a French immersion charter going (because, let's be clear, this is the very very beginning of this conversation, just to explore the idea and see what kind of energy there is for taking next steps). I would be participating as someone for whom most likely my child will not benefit from this, since I have every intention of having her settled in a school we feel great about by K at the latest (hopefully this year!). But I believe DC needs more choices, and I speak French and love the Mundo Verde model of a green school, so I would be happy to be part of helping that get going. Anyone who's interested in having this conversation further, please email mjjasm@gmail.com . She has been kind enough to offer to organize the initial contacts and get us talking offline. If you think it's a great idea/concept for your child in the future but do not have an interest in actually helping the school become a reality, no need to email right now, just stay tuned to see if anything actually happens. :)
