Most very rich people don't want houses like this. It was designed for a different kind of life. The people who built this house had butlers, housekeepers, cooks, maids, gardeners, chauffeurs, enterained at grand dinner parties, had plenty of visiting guests who stayed over. That world doesn't really exist any more outside of some very rarefied circles and it's not so much that people can't afford it (they could) but they don't want it. They'd rather have the apartment in NYC, or a casual yet upgraded house like OP's link near the office in DC, they'll be jetting to houses in Nantucket or Colorado and London and parties in Morocco and Dubai. The St. David house is a white elephant and better suited for conversion to a school or institution or even condos.[/quote]
