Platner (BY HIS OWN ADMISSION, please don’t delete the post and sanitize the thread) is rated 100% disabled by the VA for PTSD, which causes neurochemical brain damage- sometimes permanent- and mental health/behavioral problems not unlike what is suffered by some stroke patients.

I’ve spend decades working with PTSD and other mental health patients, and just over a decade with stroke and dementia patients, so have a volume of real world experiences with the personality and reasoning issues that these various conditions cause.

His disabled categorization is a VA benefit term given his tours of service, and doesn’t necessarily imply he can’t or shouldn’t work or that he is now mentally disabled. I do care that he donned a Nazi tattoo for 17 years.  And, his claim that he was unaware of what it was.... totally unbelievable.  You think a tattoo artist didn't inform him if there was any doubt?  
I also care that he has not only downplayed sexual assault, but actually blames victims of sexual assault for being assaulted.

I find it 100% believable that a drunk 20-something soldier in a foreign country thinks the tattoo is “cool” looking & does not know / understand its meaning. If it were me, I’d probably have made an earlier effort to get it removed but I actually don’t know when he found out real meaning & when he had it covered. I’m so desperate to get rid of Collins & like enough of other things he’s saying that I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. [/quote]

Exactly. Drunk 19 yo American gets a tattoo in a Croatian shop 19 yrs ago, I 100% believe he didn’t know what it was at the time and probably didn’t think a whole lot about it for years. I do wish he had gotten in front of the stupid stuff he did/posted online though before his campaign got into full swing.  The way things have come out in a drip drip fashion worries me that he’s not ready for prime time despite what seem like some good political instincts. I’ll vote for him, I despise Collins, but tbh I wish we had a better choice [/quote]

He didn’t just fail to get in front of the awful crap from his past, he engaged in a concerted effort to try to erase all his ugly Internet posting history apparently too stupid to know that once it’s out there it’s out there forever. Less than a year ago he engaged in an intentional plan to deceive the electorate of Maine about who he was  - who is obviously still is - and he didn’t come clean until he was caught out red handed by folks with better internet skills than he has. Then he issued self serving apologies without offering any plausible explanation for his ugly comments which reveal ugly attitudes that he held well into adulthood with a fully developed frontal lobe. He engaged in a further disgusting path of behavior by trying to blame his misogyny and bigotry on PTSD, which doesn’t cause any of that. He stated in the past and he still clearly thinks that rural Mainers are all stupid and racist, and he’s engaging in a performative act to get over on the electorate. His character is profoundly deficient and he is not fit to serve in the Senate. I’m a liberal who deeply dislikes Collins but I hope Platner implodes in the general election cycle. I hope all his vile skeletons come bobbing to the surface and bury him. [/quote]
