For those interested… update TL;DR — We’re now on issue #3. The replacement cabinet came in and doesn’t match the depth, so everything is misaligned again. On top of that: - Original design (their measurements) caused the door interference issue - Their “fix” forced us to move a window out of pocket - Replacement was delayed despite being told it was ordered - Cabinets don’t match the original finish (no signed approval) We have a meeting this week, but months later we still don’t have a functional kitchen and costs keep adding up. Looking into next steps if this isn’t resolved.
I'm sorry, OP. I was quoted about 12 weeks start to finish for my kitchen and it took 9 months, and instead of costing 100k it cost 130k. At some point, it is what it is. These things rarely go smoothly. Although, they should be paying for their mistakes as they go, not having you pay for them. Some costs just end up being higher- for example, my reno ended up needing lead and asbestos abatement that wasn't anticiapted, and then a wall couldn't be moved the way they wanted it to be moved because they didn't realize a structural beam was in the wall. Should they have known that ahead of time? Probably. Should they have anticipated the need for lead/asbestos abatement prior to tearing things up considering our house is 120 years old? Probably. Is it realistic that I was going to take them to court over these things? No. But, when they ordered the wrong sized windows, they just said "the windows came in the wrong size- we are so sorry- new ones will be here in 2 weeks" and I didn't see a bill. Same thing for when one of the cabinets got damaged during install- they had to order a new one, and it delayed things, but I didn't see a bill. And if they'd tried to bill me I'd have refused. Basically, pick your battles. There is a reason everyone says home renovations are a nightmare- because they are! But then you're done and you forget about the terrible process after a few months and you just love your new space.
THey? Why wouldn't you ?
