Utah. On two separate occasions, teenagers approached me -- a black man -- on the trolley from the Salt Lake City airport and offered to help with my luggage. Now that I think about, TSA at SLC was unbelievably pleasant.
So true. SLC airport is a breath of fresh air. Maybe Utah gets claustrophobic if you’re there long-term, but it’s delightful in small doses.
All the open space and mountains helps Utah not to feel as claustrophobic as it could be. If it didn’t have mountains, it would not be appealing. I have lived in ny, sf, dc, Boston, Atlanta, Chicago, Tokyo, hk, and London. SLC airport is the best home airport I’ve ever had. The parking is cheap, the flights are rarely canceled, it ranks at the very top for on time flights, it’s a delta hub, and it’s so so so clean. When I lived in ny, no matter where my final destination was, the absolute worst part of traveling was getting to and from ewr/jfk/lga. They were all terrible. Are the people in Utah nice? Sure, but I also found people to be nice everywhere else I have lived, just in different ways.
