When being taught about the Protestant Reformation, I heard a fair amount about objections to the ornate Catholic churches - unnecessarily dressing up religion while the people starved or what have you. I sort of understood those critiques intellectually, but didn't really get it at a gut level until I actually toured some of the places. Being in those places, I could envision being a reformer, thinking that the Church had lost its way - more focused on material concerns than spiritual ones. [/quote]
