Who cares? TSA has NEVER foiled a terrorist. FEMA has been destroyed. Trump can find $$ to pay Coast guard if he loves the military. Stay shutdown till 2027 when Dems have some oversight.
Obviously DHS staff who aren't exempt (as in funded) workers care. Most people don't have the emergency savings to delay income for almost a freaking year, and the job market is trash. And contractors don't get back pay. This is a DC-area board, so have some sympathy for feds caught in the crossfire. So anyway, to the actual question, how long might it actually last?
I’m PP. I know this hurts workers and I’m sorry for that. But as some point we need to stand against fascism.
It isn’t even recommended by financial planners to keep a year of savings. 3-6 months, they say. And that’s if you don’t struggle, don’t have competing savings/investment/debt priorities, don’t have exorbitant mortgage due to DMV home and goods prices. If government is closed for 3-6 months, you’d see the RE market fail in the area
No. That's what they said during the DOGE carnage, and our local economy took a hit but didn't fail. I personally know many people who were laid off. The DHS situation involves FAR FEWER EMPLOYEES, so no, you are way off. I hope the Democrats will stand firm... but never underestimate Schumer! :-)
