Obviously DHS staff who aren't exempt (as in funded) workers care. Most people don't have the emergency savings to delay income for almost a freaking year, and the job market is trash. And contractors don't get back pay. This is a DC-area board, so have some sympathy for feds caught in the crossfire.

It isn’t even recommended by financial planners to keep a year of savings.
3-6 months, they say.

And that’s if you don’t struggle, don’t have competing savings/investment/debt priorities, don’t have exorbitant mortgage due to DMV home and goods prices.

No. That's what they said during the DOGE carnage, and our local economy took a hit but didn't fail. I personally know many people who were laid off. The DHS situation involves FAR FEWER EMPLOYEES, so no, you are way off.

I hope the Democrats will stand firm... but never underestimate Schumer! :-)
