Everyone understands teachers don’t make the FCPS calendar, so using that as a diversion is just avoiding the real issue. A criticism of the calendar is not a criticism of teachers.  Stop mixing the two to stir people up.

And this idea that elementary school “doesn’t count” doesn’t match anything FCPS actually does. If it’s so insignificant, why the attendance pressure? Why the testing? Why the constant messaging about instructional time? You can’t claim it’s meaningless and then defend all the systems built around it.

At the end of the day, families expect a consistent schedule and kids deserve a stable education. Is that really such a difficult standard? What exactly is FCPS’s mission if not to provide those two basic things?

Not everyone has the option to homeschool or treat the calendar like a suggestion. Many of us rely on the system to function and it’s reasonable to expect the calendar to do the same.[/quote]
