Abusers often use the whole "I'm working on myself, look how self aware I am" stance to stop people from leaving them[/quote] Yes, and remember that most celebrity books are ghostwritten. The ghost writer can amp up the pathos and create a likeable character. He also is super busy and consumed with his health regime. He did not devote time to the physical act of writing a book.
