No, only to those with strong NY accents (which some of them did have) would I possibly sound Southern. My uncle and his kids in Alabama had southern accents - my mid-Atlantic accent is neutral by comparison. The weird quirk I never picked up from the area I grew up was putting r sounds into words that don’t have them, like pronouncing water “werter”. My husband grew up in TX but you can only hear a little on certain words. My extended family on my dad’s side are from Boston area. They have the exact accent that Ben, Matt and Jimmy Fallon demonstrated a couple weeks ago. I could close my eyes and hear my great aunts and uncles speaking during that segment.[/quote]
