My mom is older and had measles when she was little before there was a vaccine.  She had an uncomplicated case and told me she can still remember how intensely her head hurt.  She and her sister were kept in a dark room all day because light was painful.  Even the case that didn't require hospitalization was so painful my mom can remember the pain 70 years later.

When the polio vaccine came.out my grandparents waited in line all day to have their kids get vaccinated because they personally knew people severely harmed or killed by polio.[/quote]
