Support for this is NOT growing. Every poll shows support for Trump’s immigration policies is declining. It’s down to the 30’s for his approvals there.
Some people are going to be really disappointed when they realize that attitudes towards Trump and how he or his administration have handled critical issues don’t necessarily apply to the issues themselves. As much as it’s comforting to think only bigots want serious reform re: immigration (including remigration), escalating concerns about h1b (and the assorted and adjacent programs), housing, traffic, national debt (including the insane amount of foreign aid), and general strain on resources like welfare and healthcare has many people, especially young people, frankly over liberal immigration policies. That’s before you add in concerns about violent crime like sexual assault, financial crimes and fraud, and the lack of assimilation of more recent immigrants (for those pretending they don’t know why there’s an issue now versus 1910 or something). If anything, many on the right are furious with Trump’s flip flopping on the issue ($100k fees for h1b one day, wanting hundreds of thousands of Chinese college students the next). That he only gets fired up when convenient but young people need jobs and don’t want to compete with the entire world. They witness the rampant cheating and financial aid fraud by immigrants in college as they struggle to get ahead. They want affordable homeownership and resent people who don’t prioritize American culture, norms, language, etc living in nice homes, even invading entire areas like Dallas/Frisco TX, Morrisville, NC, obviously Minneapolis, etc. that have been transformed.
