I don't understand FCPSs actions here. Most students are taking A1 by 8th grade; there are schools where that is not the case but those tend to be Title 1 schools. And we keep reading posts and hearing from teachers that there are 8th graders struggling with algebra. I would guess that there are 6th and 7th graders struggling this year but whose parents don't want to move their kids to the right class because they see that as saying their kid is not advanced. I can see schools fighting having kids moved to 6th grade AAP or M7H out of Algebra because there is so much pressure to get kids into Algebra early.

It is stupid. Look at the test scores and grades, give parents and students the option. If a kid has a grade lower than a B, there should be an automatic conversation to explore changing the math class. [/quote]
