My DC had this issue until age 11 and his ped said it was not at all unusual. I did not discuss with other moms. He understood he needed to wear a pull-up under his loose-fitting pajamas and I gave him a bag for it and told him to bring it home. It was fine.
Yes, my son wanted to handle it discreetly so we approached it in a similar way. I would not have let him do a sleepover if he had been reluctant to use the pull-up, however.
I think this is the key. If a kid refuses to wear a pull-up, I would not allow them to go to a sleepover.
+1 it is unbelievable to me that the mom thinks it is a real possibility that her daughter will either refuse to wear the pull up and wet the bed, or will stay up all night leaving you dealing with that as well. She needs to parent her child. The options are she comes up with a plan where her daughter will definitely wear the pull up OR she changes the night to a sleep-under until she is ready to cooperate. It is one thing if a child unexpectedly has an accident or something. It is quite another to put this on you so she doesn’t need to parent her daughter through this. All this gentle parenting and deferring to children is bananas.
