I don’t understand why people are saying that high 1300s is “low” for Penn State. The middle 50% of admitted students is 1330 to 1480, and the middle 50% of enrolled students is 1250 to 1410. Obviously they admit high scoring kids with little to no regard to yield (yay! good policy!), but given that only about 40% of enrolled students submit scores, and assuming that the kids who don’t submit have even lower scores, a kid with a 1370 or 1390 would easily be in the top 25% of the enrolled class. And none of this is meant as shade. My 1570 kid is in and has PSU high on her list.
I am the PP who was surprised my daughter was accepted, due to her low-ish 3.9 weighted GPA. I didn’t think her 1370 would end up carrying so much weight, being that the school is TO. It was a nice surprise, but still too expensive OOS. She actually is “in love” with another OOS flagship (lower ranked, but excellent for her major) that offered enough $$ to bring it to in-state tuituon price. She is sitting pretty now, so any acceptance is a cherry on the cake.
Weighing scores more heavily than GPA is probably how Penn State manages to be one of the very few schools in the T75 that enrolls more men than women.
