This. You don't have to love them and you definitely don't have to wear them, but this the direction jeans are going in.

That’s…not how this works. People wearing the “out of style” skinny jeans, because they like them and ignore trends, will continue to wear those jeans. Meanwhile, fashion victims will continue to fashion victim.[/quote]

The skinny jeans wearers are also fashion victims, because they are wearing a trend that happens to be out of date. The barrel pants are at least on trend.

If you really want to avoid being a fashion victim, just wear straight, midrise, classic Levis. Otherwise, you too are participating in fashion even if you don't like current trends.

There are also less dramatic versions of both skinny jeans and barrel jeans that are far less likely to make you look like a fashion victim. A slim straight jean that is more fitted but not skintight, for instance, won't look ridiculous now. Likewise, there are barrel jeans where the shape is subtle with just a slightly more barrel shape than a classic straight jean, and jeans like that will look good and current for a long time, even after the current trend fades.[/quote]
